What is Rapid Test?
Rapid Test is a type of serology test that detects the presence of antibodies (IgG/IgM) which presents at the early stage of viral infection – including COVID-19. Being a disease that is originated from a virus, this test can effectively be used as a method to distinguish a COVID-19 Reactive or Non-Reactive person during its initial phase.
“Reactive(+)” result is shown by a red stripe on C (control) and either IgG and IgM, and “Non-Reactive(-)” result is shown by a red stripe ONLY on C (control)
Rapid test is, however, NOT the only available test for detecting COVID-19, and its result cannot be used as an evidence to diagnose someone as having the disease or not. Rapid Test is simply a test that can be conducted rapidly (hence its name) and is only meant to preliminary screen individuals who are probable to have COVID-19; thus, allowing them to take early measure.
How it works?
1. COLLECTION OF BLOOD
After sterilizing the fingertip area where blood is to be collected, the skin is pierced with a sterile lancet to collect blood sample. This is known as the "fingerstick" method.
2. ADDING BLOOD SAMPLE
The collected blood is then added to the sample well of the cassette.
3. DROP BUFFER
Add 3 drops of buffer into the sample well of the cassette.
4. READ TEST RESULT
Results will be out within 10-15 minutes. One red stripe means "non-reactive", two or more means "reactive" and requires further validation. Consul with our doctor to determine the next best action.
